Crop Insurance

SCOPE OF COVERAGE AND COVERED RISKS

With this insurance, the material damages directly caused by the following risks on the crops and/or fruit trees, tea and vines themselves and their saplings, ornamental plant saplings, planted in soil, hail net and cover for vineyards and orchards, and support (wire cultivation) systems grown on parcels (open area) registered in the registration systems determined by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry are covered up to the sum insured. 

Within the scope of crop insurance, the crop, trees and saplings are insured separately.

For all crops, the risks listed below are covered under the hail package insurance;

  • Quantity loss due to hail, storm , whirlwind, fire, earthquake, landslide, vehicle impact and flood,
  • Quality losses caused by hail fresh fruits/vegetables and cut flowers,
  • Quantity loss of field crops, vegetables, strawberry and saplings due to wild animal (wild boar and deer) attack,
  • Quantity loss caused by the birds eating the seeds available on the table during the ripening and harvesting period for the Sunflower (For Oil), Sunflower (For Snack) crops and Sunflower (For Certified Seed) crop
  • Quantity loss caused by the rain risk for the opened bolls during the period from the opening of the bolls on the Cotton and Cotton (For Certified Seed) crop until the harvest
  • Quantity loss  caused by frost risk on fruit saplings and vineyard saplings,

Optionally, the risks shown below may also be covered;

  • Quantity loss caused by the risk of frost in fresh fruits, oil rose and artichoke,
  • Loss of hail net / cover systems and supporting (wired cultivation) systems due to hail, hail weight, storm, whirlwind, fire, earthquake, landslide, flood and vehicle impact,
  • Quantity loss of cherry and grape during ripening and harvesting periods, quality loss of fig (for fresh use only) during ripening and harvesting periods, quality and quantity loss of fig (for dry) during ripening and harvesting periods due to rainfall,
  • Quantity loss caused by hail, storm, whirlwind, fire, earthquake, landslide, vehicle impact, flood, and damage from wild boar and deer to the barley, wheat, rye, triticale, oats, and spelt wheat products, as well as stem part of their certified seeds.
  • Quantity loss of the leaves of the vineyard which is used for pickle, due to hail, storm, whirlwind, fire, earthquake, landslide and flood.
  • Quantity loss caused by the hot weather, which causes the grapefruit, lemon, mandarin, orange to bloom, dry and fall during the fruit set and small fruit periods, and which causes the failure in grain set in the bunches of grapes, cessation of growth, drying and falling in the grain during the blooming and grain setting period,
  • Quantity losses directly occurring on the fruits of mandarin, orange, lemon and grapefruit crops due to sunburn caused by high temperatures and intense light exposure, after the June drop,during the period from the large fruit stage until reaching harvest maturity,
  • Loss caused by the risk of frost in sugar beet, zucchini (snack), tomato, pepper, eggplant, melon, watermelon and potato, which will cause replanting during the seedling and leafing periods.
  • In policies that include optional frost coverage for apricot, apple, pear, quince, peach, nectarine, plum, cherry, and sour cherry products, the quantity loss caused by winter frost risk occurring before the phenological stages described in Article A.9.1, paragraph 3 of the General Conditions for the commencement of coverage is optionally limited to the guaranteed yield specified in the policy.

Optional/additional covers cannot be purchased solely.

Additionally, total loss (*) of economically productive fruit trees, tea and vineyard as well as sapling of these and ornamental plant seedlings planted in the soil,can be insured separately due to hail, storm, whirlwind, fire, earthquake, landslide, flood, vehicle impact and snow weight and risk of wild animal (boar and deer) damage in saplings and frost risk in fruit and vineyard saplings. Before insuring the economically productive fruit trees, tea and vineyard themselves, in condition that the period is appropriate, it is required to insure the product first. If the insurance period of the crop is not suitable, this condition is not sought.

(*) Total Loss:Due to risks covered loss of all 3 year's yield of fruit trees, tea and vineyard and loss of sapling properties of fruit trees, tea, vineyards and ornamental plant seedlings planted in the soil.

POLICY ISSUANCE

In order for the farmer to carry out the insurance operations, they must first have updated their records in the registration systems determined by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry regarding the land and crop of that year. The farmer, who has updated his/her records in the registration systems determined by the Ministry of Agriculre and Forestry, applies to the insurance company or agency that is a member of the Agricultural Insurance Pool (TARSİM) to insure his/her crop. The insurance company or agency enters the system of Agricultural Insurance Pool (TARSİM) and makes inquiries regarding farmer’s information. In accordance with the General Terms and Conditions, Tariff, and Instructions, the agent issues the policy in the system. For the issued policy, Clarification Text, Policy Information Form and Policy printouts within the scope of the Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK) are sent by TARSİM to our insureds as SMS or e-mail, depending on their preference. In case the insured prefers to take the printed policy; the agency takes the Clarification Text, Policy Information Form and Policy printouts within the scope of the Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK) from the system in two copies and gives one copy to the insured in return for his/her signature. Then the agency issues the policy as two copies and hand out the one to the policy holder / insured.

PREMIUM PAYMENT

In Crop Insurance, 50% of the premium written in hail package policies is subsidized by the Goverment. However, for additional frost and winter frost risks in fruit crops, frost risk in fruit and vineyard seedlings, and frost risk during the seedling and leafing stages of sugar beet, pumpkin (for snacks), tomato, pepper, eggplant, melon, watermelon, and potato crops that would necessitate replanting; 70% of the frost premium is covered by the State.

15% of the premium to be paid by the insured is taken in advance, the remaining premium is collected at the latest within 1 month from the end of the policy.

In tree / sapling insurance policies, 15% of the premium to be paid by the insured is taken in advance and the remaining premium amount is collected in maximum 5 installments.

CLAIM NOTIFICATION / LOSS ADJUSTMENT / PAYMENT PROCESS

In Crop Insurance, in the event of a covered risk occurring, the policyholder/insured may report the damage to the Agricultural Insurance Pool (TARSİM) within the shortest possible time, provided that the loss adjustment is technically accurate, error-free, and timely, within latest 10 days for frost damage and 15 days for other damages. This can be done via the call center ALO 172, the TARSİM Mobile Application, the Policy Inquiry/Damage Reporting screen on tarsim.gov.tr, or through agents/insurance companies.

Loss adjustments are made by the loss adjusters appointed by the Agricultural Insurance Pool (TARSİM). Following the completion of the loss file, finalized indemnity amounts are paid to the insured by the Agricultural Insurance Pool (TARSİM) via the bank channel within 30 days at the latest. Indemnities are not paid before the harvest date. However, in case of a total loss, within the principles of insurance, indemnity is paid before the policy termination date.

In the case of field and vegetable group products, if the insured crop suffers damage at an early stage of development, and if the loss adjuster of the Agricultural Insurance Pool (TARSİM) determines that re-sowing or re-planting of the same or a different crop is required, without waiting for the harvest date, payment shall be made to the insured for the planting/sowing and maintenance costs incurred for the insured crop, in accordance with the provisions set forth in the General Conditions and the Tariff and Instructions.
